Libertarian State Leadership Alliance

The Libertarian State Leadership Alliance (LSLA) has been in touch with a pitch for helping them to grow more effective practices for affiliate organizations. The LSLA is continuing to grow to help our LP Affiliates! We are recruiting qualified and talented members to join the LSLA Support Committee. The short term goal of the LSLA Support Committee is to put together a guidebook (play book, manual, hand book, etc.) of best practices which will be distributed to all State Chairs. The Committee will reach out to all states to gather and aggregate anything and everything we can which will help build our Affiliates. Please check the LSLA out at http://lsla.org/.

Airplane Conversation

Flying on Obama's private plane. Obama looked at Oprah, chuckled and said, "You know, I could throw a $1,000 bill out of the window right now and make somebody very happy."

Oprah shrugged her shoulders and replied, "I could throw ten $100 bills out of the window and make 10 people very happy."

Michelle added, "That being the case, I could throw one hundred $10 bills out of the window and make 100 people very happy."

Hearing their exchange, the pilot rolled his eyes and said to his co-pilot, "Such big-shots back there. I could throw all 3 of them out of the window and make 313 million people very happy."

Movie and Book Review Feature

The following review excerpts are courtesy LPM Webmaster Brian Wright's commentary and review site, The Coffee Coaster. [Reader submissions of reviews are also solicited for this Michigan Libertarian Movie and Book Review feature. -- ed.]

Movie Review
Parenthood
(1989)
The red pill (harsh reality) version __ 7.5/10

... They don’t give up, and they don’t walk away. Eventually, things work out. That is essentially the theme of the film… along with parenthood and family being a roller coaster worth taking the trouble for. When you apply the reality test to Parenthood, well, nobody’s family contains this much drama. So as much as writer Lowell Ganz and director Ron Howard want to give us more than our money’s worth on the serious side they balance it with a reasonable amount of comedy, too. Of course, Steve Martin is one of a kind in that department, and doesn’t disappoint—you’ll get a snick or two out of the vidclip on the right, and of the full segment in the film where Gil tries to entertain Kevin and his friends on Kevin’s birthday. Book Review
63 Documents (2009)
The government doesn’t want you to read...
by Jesse Ventura

"If you believe in things like making a pact with the devil, you might say that our own intelligence agencies did just that at the end of World War 2.That’s when we started giving many of Hitler’s top henchmen not only sanctuary in our country, but putting these same Nazis to work for us. The Cold War with the Soviet Union was beginning—and the excuse was that we needed every bit of expertise, scientific and otherwise, that we could get.

"It almost seems to me that the Cold War was staged so the weapons manufacturers and others could make money off it. Otherwise, how could we go from being allies with the Russians all through the war to their becoming our bitter enemies almost overnight? As Colonel Fletcher Prouty once said, “Nothing just happens, everything is planned.”— Page 60 [Full Review]
