REGIONAL ACTIVIST CONFERENCES-WHERE VOLUNTEERS MEET THE LPM!

It's clear if we want to bring freedom to Michigan it will take a lot of work.  And the Libertarian Party of Michigan needs your help with that! So we're hosting regional volunteer orientation meetings in March and April.  The meetings will be an opportunity for new volunteers to learn about the LPM and ways to get involved, as well as meet affiliate leaders from the area.  After the orientation and volunteer sign-up, which should last two hours, there will be an hour of affiliate leadership training, which the new volunteers are welcome to attend.  These meetings are free and open to everyone.

The first conference will be on Saturday, March 14 from 2-5 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express, 6569 Clay Ave SW , Grand Rapids (near the intersection of 131 and M-6).  This facility features an indoor water park, so it may be a chance to enjoy a nice family get-away.  Contact Emily Salvette Salvette@umich.edu for information about special hotel rates.

The second conference will be on Saturday, April 4 from 2-5 p.m. at the LPM offices at Columbia Center II, 101 W Big Beaver Rd, Suite 1400 , Troy .
While there is no charge, reservations would be appreciated so we know how many to expect.  Please RSVP to Emily Salvette, Salvette@umich.edu.

LIBERTY FEST-A STELLAR EVENING

From left to right they are: David Eisenbacher (Promoter of Liberty), Leon Drolet (spokesperson for Liberty ), Greg Stempfle (Producer of Liberty), and Charles Snyder III on behalf of Krystal Martinez (spokesperson for Liberty ).

Libertarian Party activists from across the state attended LibertyFest in Dearborn on January 24.  Leon Drolet, Executive Director of Michigan Taxpayers Alliance, spoke on his history supporting Libertarian causes and his recent efforts fighting the Republican and Democratic tax-raisers in Lansing .  Charles Snyder, III, of the Michigan Coalition for Compassionate Care, spoke of his personal struggles to legalize medical marijuana in Michigan .

The highlight of LibertyFest was the awarding of the Libertarian Party's Defender of Liberty awards for 2008.  Spokesperson for Liberty awards went to Leon Drolet for his efforts on behalf of liberty as a state legislator and Michigan Taxpayers Alliance activist, and Krystal Martinez, for her efforts as Coordinator of the successful Proposal 1, Medical Marijuana Initiative.   Libertarian David Eisenbacher received the Promoter of Liberty award for his efforts on the Troy City Council.  Libertarian Greg Stempfle received the Producer of Liberty award for his behind-the-scenes activism over many years as a State and Affiliate leader, newsletter editor, candidate and campaign manager.

Dmitri's served a delicious dinner and provided for a pleasant social occasion.  Thanks to Scott Boman and Greg Stempfle of the Wayne County affiliate for organizing such a fun and interesting evening.  For a complete description please visit the LPM Website at this link.
