  2. Andy LeCureaux Moves Forward — by Bruce Hoepner

Andy LeCureaux, long time Libertarian Party stalwart and four time elected Hazel Park City Councilman has joined the Democratic Party. He has made this decision in order to run for the State representative seat in the 27th District.

When asked why he chose the Democrats for this next step in his political life Andy said, “It’s the only game in town.” The 27th district is heavily Democratic with a strong Union voter base. Virtually all past seats have been held by Democrats.

Andy’s libertarian record in Hazel Park of helping to improve city services, restore financial stability and invigorate the business climate, as well as his leadership in the Southeastern Oakland County Resource Recovery Authority, has established a solid foundation of Democratic support. This is evidenced by his endorsement from Democratic Hazel Park Mayor, Jack Lloyd.

Andy has expressed his desire of furthering libertarian principles into higher levels of government. The current status of the LPM political structure and support eliminates any possibility of this advancement now.

Even should he serve as a Democrat, his philosophy and heart remain in the LP. Commenting on a return to the LP, should the Party become politically viable, LeCureaux responded, “Of course!”

If you are interested in hearing Andy speak to his political shift, or if you have questions for the candidate, or wish to support his campaign, then please attend a special LPOC Meeting on March 12th, at 7:00 p.m., at Sila’s Restaurant, 4033 W. 12 Mile Rd. in Berkley.

    All are welcome.
