  2. It's Delegate Time - Join or Renew Your National Membership

We need your help! Have you joined the national Libertarian Party as a sustaining member by contributing $25 to the national LP in the past 12 months? Perhaps you once were a sustaining member of the national LP, but let your membership lapse. One way to check is to answer this question: Have you been receiving LP News monthly from the national LP? If so, what does the mailing label say about your expiration date? If you aren't currently a sustaining member of the national LP, then please join or renew your national LP sustaining membership today! Go to http://www.lp.org/members/newmember.shtml

Your sustaining membership in the national Libertarian party is very important to the Libertarian Party of Michigan. The national LP counts its Michigan members as of December 31 of this year and awards delegates to next May's Libertarian Party Presidential Nominating Convention, based on how many national sustaining members reside in Michigan. The more national members we have, the more delegates we receive. If our membership falls in the top 10 states (we are currently hanging on to 10th place), then we also get to appoint a delegate to the national Platform Committee.

What do you get for a modest $25 contribution to the national LP, besides the satisfaction of supporting the Libertarian Party and its candidates, More Freedom and Less Government? You receive the national LP's monthly newspaper, LP News. And the LPM will recognize you as a member of the state party, sending you its bimonthly Michigan Libertarian newsletter. Please join or renew today! Go to http://www.lp.org/members/newmember.shtml

  3. Libertarian Mark Byrne Runs for Port Huron City Council — by Scotty Boman

    mark Byrne

Mark Byrne is a candidate for Port Huron City Council; there are 7 seats, 6 incumbents and 6 challengers. Mark has not sought any help from the Libertarian Party of Michigan, but welcomes any help that is available. Mark is open about his Libertarian affiliation.

It's a non-partisan race, but Mark listed his Chairmanship of the Libertarian party of St Clair and Sanilac County as political experience in the newspaper, and on several online forums. He also mentioned the Libertarian Party at the first televised debate and intends to do so again during his radio interview this Tuesday morning and in the second debate Thursday.

According to Byrne, the Teamsters said he was the first Libertarian they had ever endorsed and the AFL-CIO was also well aware of him being Libertarian when they endorsed him. The Times Herald has endorsed 5 of the 6 incumbents along with a former police officer and a former Mayor.

  4. November 6 Presents Unique Opportunity to Reach Voters — by Scotty Boman

What a better place to find genuine active voters than at a local election? Naturally those running for local office, and volunteers in a position to help them will be greeting voters on the way in. Then again plenty of other people will be competing for that last minute vote.

But what about on the way out? I have done this before. When I hand them the literature they smugly say, “I already voted.” To which I would say, "This is for the next election." So if you can’t get to polls where Libertarians are running for City Council, you can always distribute exit literature at your local precinct; even a generic piece on libertarianism could make an impression.

Furthermore, petitioners can find plenty of registered voters to sign their petitions. In this issue of LPM-online there is an article on Mark Byrne. There are also three other candidates:

Hazel Park Councilman Andy Lecureaux is seeking re-election. He has served as Mayor Pro-Tem, and has been on a number of committees.
He could use some poll workers the day of the election and is doing a lit drop on Saturday, Nov. 3rd starting at 10 am.
He can always be reached by cell phone at: 248-225-7372
    or by email: alecureaux@yahoo.com

Garden City Council Candidate, David Nagy would appreciate any help at the Garden City Polls on Voting Day. Even an hour or two would help. David will have some info sheet to hand-out like he did 2-Years ago. In that election he lost by only 13 votes. With a little more help, he hopes to win this year.

Owasso Mayor Pro-Tem Mark Owen has been in office for 6 years, and believes he is in a good position for reelection. There are 7 candidates vying for 4 positions on the Owasso City Council.
