At its October 7 meeting, the Libertarian Party of Michigan Executive Committee will select the LPM's representative to the 2008 Libertarian Party National Convention Platform Committee. Any LPM member interested in the appointment should submit their request for appointment and a resume setting forth their qualifications to LPM Secretary Emily Salvette at salvette@umich.edu no later than Wednesday, October 3. The Platform Committee will meet in Las Vegas February 15-17 at the annual Libertarian State Leadership Alliance Conference, to prepare its preliminary report to delegates, and then again in Denver prior to the National Convention, which will be held May 21-25, 2008. I have been asked to publicize the availability of fellowships to the Michigan Political Leadership Program at Michigan State University. MPLP is distinguished as one of only a handful of programs of its kind in the nation. Each year a diverse group from across the state come together for one weekend a month from February through November to engage in a curriculum focused on practical politics, public policy process and analysis, leadership development, and effective governance. Twenty-four fully-paid multi-partisan leadership training fellowships will be awarded. Each fellowship is valued at $12,000 and covers meals, lodging, and program materials. In the past, Libertarian Party of Michigan activists Barb Goushaw and Mike Brinkman have attended and graduated from this excellent program. It is a golden opportunity for you to hone your skills as a Libertarian political activist. Details and an application are available on the MPLP website at www.ippsr.msu.edu/MPLP or by calling 517/353.0891. The deadline for application is Friday, August 31, 2007. This past Sunday evening, August 26, Libertarians gathered for a social event -- the third annual Libertarian Party of West Michigan picnic. Drs. Marcy and Eric Larson hosted the picnic at their home near Grand Rapids. More than 20 Libertarian activists, many of them past LP candidates, and their families stopped by to enjoy the food, the perfect weather and the great company. Many discussions were had regarding the recent libertarian victory in the GRCC millage election and plans to expand the number of local candidates run in next year's elections. |
