  3. Libertarians attend Meet the Candidates event in Caro — by Mark Byrne

The Davenport Universities annual meet the candidates event at their Caro campus was well worth the trip. State senate candidate Reinhold Ploep along with St Clair County Chair Mark Byrne made the 80 mile trip to Caro this year. The annual event provides a seperate room for the five main parties. The U S Taxpayers Party room was empty as none made the trip to Caro. The Green Party had 4 people in attendance. Each room had several computers set up with the parties websites all ready up. We were able to have the computers set to other sites such as the LPM, Creswell or the Bob Smither interview on youtube.com. In addition there was a conference table where we had plenty of LP literature including Leonard Schwartz's pamplet.

From the moment the event started people came into the LP room and most stayed for about an hour. At one point there were 9 students asking questions and liking the the ideas they were hearing for the first time. Several inquired about how to help and how to get these ideas moving forward. At the end several of the professors came into the LP room along with a Republican candidate. After talking to the professors a few minutes I understood why we were given the first room voters came to, they lean Libertarian. Between the students and professors we ran out of the "Democrats and Republicans both Suck" ThinkLibertarian.com bumber stickers.

  4. Volunteers needed for WXYZ protest in Southfield — by Scotty Boman

Greg Creswell will be present outside of WXYZ studio in Southfield On the evening of October 16th. I will join him there. I hope plenty of others will attend as well. Please contact me for details of this protest event.

The location was chosen because it is where the Republocrat so-called Gubernatorial Debate will be held.

We will be doing this to draw attention to the fact that Greg Creswell is a candidate for the office of Governor. We have been treated like we don't even exist. Tim Skubick just referred to "Minority party candidates" without naming any of these candidates or their parties.

Since this is a private TV station we affirm their right to ignore us, we just don't want it to be easy for them. We wish to be impossible to ignore.

If you wish to participate, call Scotty Boman at 313-247-2052, or email: scottyeducation@yahoo.com

  6. Creswell / Boman Campaign in High Geer — by Scotty Boman

When we aren't working, Greg and myself are devoting every waking moment to our campaign. While we may have been snubbed by the people hosting the so-called "debates," we have been getting more invitations than we can keep from organizations hosting candidate forums.

I attended one this past Friday. Many incumbents were present including State Senator Deb Cherry (sister of my Democratic counterpart). When it was my turn I asked "How many people were inspired by Mondays Republican-Democrat State-wide commercial." None were inspired. I asked, "How many of you feel you can manage your money better than a politician can manage it?" About half thought they could do better. Also, most of those present thought they could manage their moral choices better than politicians.

The number of libertarian responses would have probably been higher if it weren't for the large number of incumbent politicians trying to figure out if they could manage their life better than themselves.

In any case I ran into people who were Jon Coon supporters (back in the day) and wanted to have some signs!

In the past week I revisited the Norm Jones Show, and both Greg and I have been on WKZO. Greg has scheduled several Radio interviews. We will do one together at WHFR studios in Dearborn. We will also be on WWMT-TV (Channel 3) News in Kalamazoo Michigan. Greg on October 19th and I will be there October 20th.

On the 19th Greg will participate in a well publicized Pro-MCRI rally in Grand Rapids.

Oh yah! Then there are those radio ads. Listen to WJR, WTCM, WTKG and a few others. You will hear ads for Bill Hall (already on) as well as Greg Creswell and Leonard Schwartz.

  7. WSU seeks Libertarian Candidates for Forum — by Scotty Boman

Here is the email request that was sent to me:

    Dear Libertarian Party of Michigan:

The Wayne State Political Science Graduate Student Organization (PSGSO)
would like to sponsor a panel addressing third parties in Michigan. We
are hoping the LP will send a representative. I realize this does not
give you much time, but we would like to host the event Monday, Oct. 30
(afternoonish). We would host the event on campus and be responsible
for promotion. I am also extending invitations to the Greens and
Socialist Equality Party. Roughly we would like the reps to address: party
ideologies; why the need for third parties; electoral successes or lack
thereof; future of third party movements.

If you are interested, I will start coordinating more of the details.

    Sincerely,
    James A. Buccellato
