After struggling through a year with half an LEC, the Libertarian Party of Michigan now has a complete LEC. They are: CHAIR: Scott'y Boman VICE CHAIR: James Hudler SECRETARY: Chris Watson TREASURER: Will Tyler White MEMBERSHIP DIRECTOR: Jim Allison DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR: David Raaflaub NEWSLETTER DIRECTOR: Andrew Wrenbeck POLITICAL DIRECTOR: Leonard Schwartz COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR: Tom Bagwell Some people blamed last years officer shortage on the functional director amendment to the bylaws. For this reason a motion was made to return to at-large directors. The motion failed. This was just as well, since the motion was made on an even convention year, and we got a full LEC anyway. In sharp contrast to last year, there were more delegates willing to serve the LEC than there were offices to fill. Steve Samoranski ran for communications director. I have assured all interested activists that their assistance will be welcome anyway. One doesn’t need to be an officer in this organization to make a difference. In fact, many successful candidates have never even been on the LEC. I look forward to a year of membership growth, more strong affiliates, more efficiently working information technology, more timely news reports, more Libertarians in office, and a whole lot less invasive government. Voters will be able to make the Libertarian choice for a large number of offices in the 2006 General Election. For the first time since Dick Jacobs ran in 1986, they will be able to choose a Libertarian (Gregory Creswell) for Governor. The candidates are: Governor: Gregory Creswell Lieutenant Governor: Scott'y Boman Attorney General: Bill Hall U S Senator: Leonard Schwartz State Board of Education Erwin J Haas State Board of Education Ernest A Whiteside University of Michigan Regent Eric L Larson University of Michigan Regent James Lewis Hudler Michigan State University Trustee David H Raaflaub Michigan State University Trustee JP Denoyer Wayne State University Governor Bob Schubring Wayne State University Governor Thomas W Jones Justice of the Supreme Court Kerry L Morgan U S Representative in Congress 1 Ken Proctor U S Representative in Congress 2 Steven VanTil U S Representative in Congress 3 Jeff A Steinport U S Representative in Congress 4 AIIitta Hren U S Representative in Congress 5 Steve Samoranski II U S Representative in Congress 6 Kenneth E Howe U S Representative in Congress 7 Robert L Hutchinson U S Representative in Congress 8 Dick Gach U S Representative in Congress 9 Adam Goodman U S Representative in Congress 10 Mark Byrne U S Representative in Congress 11 John J Tatar U S Representative in Congress 12 Andy LeCureaux U S Representative in Congress 13 no candidate U S Representative in Congress 14 no candidate U S Representative in Congress 15 Gregory Stempfle State Senator 8 Loel Gnadt State Senator 9 James Allison State Senator 10 John C Bonnell State Senator 11 Lauren Zemens State Senator 12 Brian Kelly State Senator 14 Christopher Watson State Senator 15 Nathan Allen State Senator 28 Jamie Lewis State Senator 29 Bill Gelineau State Senator 30 Marcia Ortquist State Senator 31 Reinhold Ploep State Senator 33 Devon K Smith State Senator 35 Thomas Hren State Representative 12 Raymond Warner State Representative 25 Michael Brylewski State Representative 26 James Young State Representative 31 James Miller State Representative 32 Joseph L Zemens State Representative 72 Bill Wenzel State Representative 73 Steve Nickelson State Representative 74 Tracey D McLaughlin State Representative 75 Lauren Hillmer State Representative 76 Matt Friar State Representative 77 John Stedman State Representative 86 Pat Steinport - Macomb County Commission 5 Nicole Michalak Macomb County Commission 19 Scott Allen Macomb County Commission 20 Keith Edwards Oakland County Commission 18 Jim Young Wayne County Commissioner 4 Ed Karpinski Wayne County Commissioner 14 Rick Secula I would like to thank all candidates for their courage and dedication.
