Do you know an activist that deserves to be honored at this year's Liberty Fest? If so, now is the time to send in your nominations. Every year we honor three of our top activists with one of these three awards: A Spokesperson of Liberty Award, given to a member of the community whose patriotism and conviction have inspired contributions to the cause of liberty (this person does not have to be a member of the LPM), a Promoter of Liberty Award, given to a person whose efforts have done the most to promote the Libertarian Party and Libertarian principles (candidate must be a LPM members), and a Producer of Liberty Award, given to a dedicated, behind-the-scenes Libertarian whose quiet labors over the years exemplify the backbone of the Libertarian Party (candidate must be a LPM member). If you know someone who you think has earned one of these awards, please send the following to me at Allison10@comcast.net: the activist's name, which award he or she qualifies for, and a paragraph explaining why he or she deserves the award. The deadline for nominations will be October 1st. 1. Michigan Dues and UMP: The Libertarian National Committee has been changing the rules about dues. In February the majority voted to increase dues to $50, starting in 2006. In August the majority voted to eliminate dues for the national party. It also voted to eliminate the Unified Membership Plan, under which a person could send dues to either the national or state party and would be a member of both. Dues for the Libertarian Party of Michigan is still $25. You can no longer renew your membership in the LPM by giving money to the national party. Before your membership expires, you should make payment to LPM. You can renew online or by mail. The national party's outreach brochures have a membership form. That form is now obsolete. A person can no longer become a member of LPM by sending that form to the national party. To recruit new members, use the new LPM brochure. But don't throw out the national party's outreach brochures. Many members have urged the LNC to reinstate the Unified Membership Plan. So, those brochures may become useful again. 2. Affiliate Chairs, Be on the Lookout In the next week or so all the affiliate chairs will be notified as to the details of the leadership conference on October 2nd. Please contact Scotty Boman at vicechair@michiganlp.org to make sure he has your correct mailing and Email address. |
