  2. Oakland Residents More Interested in Libertarians

LPOC News Release: Oakland Residents More Interested in Libertarians than Democrats or Republicans

West Bloomfield, MI—Oakland County residents appear to be more interested in Libertarians than Republicans or Democrats. At least, that is the conclusion Libertarians draw from a comparison of Alexa ratings. Alexa.com is an independent organization that ranks web site popularity. Alexa is often referred to as “the Nielsen of the Internet.”

The Libertarian Party of Oakland County web site (www.LpocMi.org) has a 3 month average traffic rank of 105,831 with the average for the last week being 63,757. By comparison, the Oakland County Democratic Party (www.ocdp.org) and the Oakland County Republican Party (oaklandgop.net) web sites receive so little traffic that they are unranked. For comparison, Yahoo.com is ranked 1 and Google.com is ranked 3. The Oakland Press web site is ranked 81,821 and the Daily Tribune web site is ranked 361,433.

“Our traffic rank started to climb when we launched our blog in August,” said LPOC webmaster Jerry Bloom. “The blog references current Oakland County news items and provides a Libertarian perspective. We even have a ‘We told you so’ category that references current news items and compares them to statements/predictions that Libertarians have made in the past on the same issue,” Bloom noted.

“Perhaps local media will take a cue from this and start covering Libertarian candidates and issues more prominently,” suggested Brian Kelly, candidate for Oakland County Commission. “Clearly the voters are interested enough in the Libertarian perspective to seek out our web site and participate in our blog. There is a market for Libertarian/small-government candidates and ideas and we are filling that market need.”

The LPOC blog discusses Oakland County issues and some statewide issues. It shies away from national issues hoping to put greater emphasis on local issues which are often overlooked.

  3. POST ELECTION PARTY with Michael Badnarik

    Michael Badnarik

The annual Michigan LP Liberty Fest banquet is scheduled for Saturday, November 13 in Okemos. There will also be a raffle. Limited special room rates of $75 for the event can be reserved by calling the Hampton Inn at (517) 349-6100.

Sponsored by the Capital Area Libertarian Party, the keynote address will be delivered by Libertarian Presidential candidate Michael Badnarik, fresh off the campaign trail. 4. MICHIGAN LIBERTARIANS INFLUENCE PRESIDENTIAL RACE

    Released to the press 10-24-04.

Libertarian Presidential candidate Michael Badnarik announced a national TV ad campaign at a fundraiser in Farmington Hills Saturday evening (10-23). The ads were produced by LPM activist Tim O'Brien of Communications Consultants in Allen Park with local talent and will be shown over the next week on Fox News Channel cable network and other regional stations throughout the country.

Badnarik's campaign manager Fred Collins, a Berkley city councilman, said they expected to reach the million dollar threshold in fundraising soon and have already spent $300,000 on television ads in key states, with more to follow.

"We are just getting started" said Collins, who has been in office for seven years. "The Libertarian message is resonating with a lot of young people who have registered to vote for the first time, and independent-leaning Republicans and Democrats who have become disillusioned with their party's candidates".

"The radio and TV ads have already had an effect, with Badnarik polling 5% in New Mexico, which was the difference between Bush (43%) and Kerry (48%)".

This is the most visible Presidential campaign the Libertarians have run to date. Independent candidate Ralph Nader is on the ballot in only 36 states, and may yield the spoiler role to Badnarik this election. Badnarik is on the ballot in 49 states and a write-in candidate in New Hampshire, where ballot status is questionable (including the District of Columbia - www.ballot-access.org).

Many will be surprised to find seven Presidential candidates on the ballot in Michigan. Only five are on enough ballots to conceivably win or influence the election, with Badnarik the most likely. Whatever the case, Michigan Libertarians will have played a crucial role in this election.
