  2. Oakland Libertarians Launch Blog by Greg Dirasian

West Bloomfield, MI—-Oakland County Libertarians launched a blog on their web site this week. The blog is intended to highlight problems and issues facing Oakland County residents and offer Libertarian solutions. Periodically, other news items of interest will be posted to the blog.

Every day one of the Libertarian Party of Oakland County (LPOC) bloggers will post an item to the blog referencing an article in one of the local newspapers. Blog readers will then be invited to comment on the issue and suggest possible libertarian solutions or solutions that can be achieved through less government rather than more government regulation and taxes. Everybody in Oakland County is welcome to participate. We will even extend a special invitation to L. Brooks Patterson and hope he finds where Libertarians have some common ground with his own party.

“More often than not we see the county government or the local (city, township, or village) governments proposing new laws or new taxes to address issues,” said LPOC Chair Nathan Allen. “Our goal with this blog is to expose the public to ‘less government’ alternatives. Perhaps we will even see some elected officials referencing the solutions proposed on this blog.”

LPOC members who wish to blog in addition to commenting on posts, can use the convenient “Register” link on the lower right portion of the web site. Authorization will be determined on a case by case basis.

Although only 5 days old, the blog is already increasing traffic to the web site, and people are staying longer when they come to the site.

Internet users can find the LPOC blog at: http://www.LpocMi.org/blog/

  3. Expansion Causes Local LP to Change Name by Bill Bradley

LIBERTARIAN PARTY OF SOUTHWESTERN MICHIGAN. EXPANSION CAUSES LOCAL LIBERTARIANS TO CHANGE NAME AND CHOOSE NEW LEADERS. The Van Buren County Libertarian Party Executive Committee recently voted to change the name of the party to the Libertarian Party of Southwest Michigan. The change was made to reflect the fact that the local party organization now covers Berrien and Cass Counties in addition to Van Buren. The committee also appointed new officers to replace the existing officers who resigned in order to facilitate the expansion. Bill Bradley of South Haven stepped down as Chairman, but replaced his wife Barbara as Secretary/Treasurer for the remainder of her term. Mrs. Bradley had asked to retire earlier this year for health reasons, but had agreed to stay on until the rest of the changes could take place. Jason Gatties of Bridgman is Bradley’s replacement as Chairman and Michael Christenson, II of Edwardsburg replaced Harold Hester of South Haven as Vice-Chairman. Hester will continue as a member of the executive committee along with Mike Dickson of Geneva Township who is the fifth member of the committee. Jason Gatties is Sales and Operations Manager with Rover Security of Benton Harbor and Michael Christenson is employed by Quantum Connections of St. Joseph as a Customer Service Representative. At the end of the meeting, Bradley commented that he was happy to see younger members coming forward to take over the leadership of the party and stated, “I will probably step down as Secretary/Treasurer when my term expires next year. Up until these changes took place, the average age of our Executive Committee was over 70. That is too old. It may work for the Supreme Court, but I will be happy to see the torch passed on to a younger age group.” For additional information call Bill Bradley at 269-637-4525 or send e-mail to bbradley@cybersol.com.
