  2. Save Money - Oppose Unfair Laws - Defeat SB509 by Leonard Schwartz

    www.SpeakOutMichigan.org -- Help Defeat Senate Bill 509

Traffic laws should be used to promote traffic safety. They should not be a disguised form of taxation. To raise revenue, some local governments already abuse traffic laws by setting unreasonably low speed limits and unnecessary stop signs.

Senate Bill 509 would create an annual driver responsibility fee. The penalty (based on the number of points and type of tickets, for which there still are large fines) can be $1000 a year.

It mandates the suspension of the license of everyone who doesn't promptly pay. This is especially harsh on those who cannot afford to pay.

Even if you have no traffic tickets, please ask your state senator and representative to oppose Senate Bill 509.

SpeakOutMichigan.org provides an easy way for you to send e-mail to them. It provides a prewritten letter, to which you can add personal comments. Type in your zip code and SpeakOutMichigan.org will identify your state legislators and send them the letter. It takes only a minute or two.

SpeakOutMichigan.org also provides an easy way for you to send e-mail to your friends so that you can ask them to contact their state legislators. Again there is a prewritten letter.

Show that you oppose the use of traffic laws as a disguised form of taxation.

Show that you care about people who have already paid large traffic fines and cannot afford to pay the outrageous annual penalty.

    Help defeat Senate Bill 509.

The Libertarian Party of Michigan sponsors www.SpeakOutMichigan.org as a public service.
