- Dianne Szabla Awarded "The Oakie"
by Leonard Schwartz
The Libertarian Party of Oakland County awarded its
annual prize, The Oakie, to Dianne Szabla for meritorious
service.
Dianne has been the LPOC treasurer for ten years. For
many years she has also been the treasurer of the
Libertarian Party of Michigan Campaign Fund. She joined the
party nearly 30 years ago.
The "Oakie" has taken many forms over the years. This
year, it was a bonsai tree, symbolizing Oakland County's oak
tree. This was particularly appropriate for Dianne, who is
an avid gardener.
Past recipients include Lloyd Sherman (1998), Lorna
Tate (1999), L. Brooks Patterson, Oakland County Executive
(2000), and Councilman David Eisenbacher (2001).
L. Brooks Patterson is the only non-LPOC member to ever
receive an "Oakie" in recognition of his work to make
libertarian-leaning Republicans unwelcome in his own party.
