  2. Bylaws and Platform Chairs Named by Greg Stempfle

The 2003 Bylaws Committee and Platform Committee Chair positions were appointed by James Hudler on Sunday. LPM Vice-Chair Jerry Bloom has been named Chair of the Platform Committee and Newsletter Editor Greg Stempfle will be chairing the Bylaws Committee. These two committees will meet the morning of the State Convention to discuss proposed bylaws and platform changes. Their recommendations will be presented to the convention at large later in the day for a vote. The committees will consist of one delegate chosen from each of the five largest affiliates. All party members may introduce proposed changes to the committees for consideration. Changes may also be presented during floor debates, however the committee reports will be presented first. 3. Bill Shotey Memorial Service March 2 by Greg Stempfle

A memorial service for libertarian activist Bill Shotey has been scheduled for March 2nd at the Michigan LP Headquarters in Hazel Park. Bill passed away suddenly on November 20th at the age of 70 while visiting his family in Arizona. Services for Bill were held in Arizona, but there has been no memorial held here in Michigan.

It’s important for many of us here to have a ceremony to help bring closure to the sudden death of this great man. This ceremony will serve as a celebration of his life and everybody is welcome to share their memories of Bill. If you have any photos of Bill from various functions, please bring them along to the service. The memorial will begin at 7:00. Bill served as Wayne County Vice-Chair for years and was a 2000 Defender of Liberty award winner.

For more information, contact Wayne County Chair, Greg Stempfle (313) 359-3240

  4. Attention Candidates For LPM Officers by Greg Stempfle

The March/April Michigan Libertarian newsletter will be devoting space for candidates for LPM offices to publish a statement about their candidacy. Each candidate may prepare 200 words to discuss issues important to them. Positions up for election in April will be Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, five At-Large Directors, and three positions on the Judicial Committee. Please attach a photograph if we do not already have one in our database. In order to get the newsletter out before the April convention, the deadline has been pushed back a week. The deadline for submission will be March 3rd. Statements can be sent to newsletter@michiganlp.org. Candidates are welcome to purchase advertising space.
