- SOCRRA First Evening Meeting
by Greg Dirasian
Libertarian Councilmen Martin Howrylak and Andy
LeCureaux, as representatives of their communities to the
Southeast Oakland County Resource Recovery Authority
(SOCRRA), worked to get the meetings moved to the evenings
so that working citizens could participate.
SOCRRA's first evening meeting will be help September
12 at 6:00pm at the Hazel Park Ice Arena. This meeting is
likely to include a vote to return excess funds to member
communities. These funds are sorely needed by most
communities which are experiencing budget shortfalls due to
the economic downturn and reductions in revenue sharing from
the state government.

- Hazel Park Living Wage Law Dies
by Greg Dirasian
The Hazel Park City Council, strongly influenced by
Libertarian Councilman Andy LeCureaux, repealed their living
wage law when the state threatened to cut revenue sharing
for cities with a living wage ordinance.
Although the legislation ultimately was not passed by
the state, Hazel Park allowed the repeal to stand. For
details on the story, see:
