  2. Libertarians of Allegan County Help Defeat KVCC Annexation by Rick Dutkiewicz

For the past year, the Libertarians of Allegan County have been up against Kalamazoo Valley Community College's attempt to add Allegan County to it's annexation district. Our members wrote letters to the editor, attended government meetings, and helped pay for and distribute literature as well as "Vote No" yard signs. LAC members were quoted in several local newspaper articles and TV spots. Significantly, this campaign has helped the Libertarians of Allegan County forge a friendship with the non-partisan Allegan County anti-tax group called "Citizens for School Accountability" (an outgrowth of Kalamazoo County Taxpayers Association). On April 30, the annexation was turned down in a special election; with roughly 10,000 "NO" and 2,000 "YES" votes. The LAC is claiming only a small part of the credit for this victory. We owe a debt to Ray Wilson from "Citizens for School Accountability" for several mailings and the great signs. Most of all, we owe plenty to the voters of Allegan County, who have a history of turning down frivolous millage requests. Whenever you watch western Michigan election returns, you will notice that new millages pass easily in other counties and districts, but very rarely do you see a new millage get passed in Allegan County. Libertarians of Allegan County are proud to be living in a county that is tough on politicians.

  3. LPM Convention -- Attendance and Voting by Leonard Schwartz

Recent e-mail indicates that some persons are confused about who is allowed to attend and vote at the LPM convention.

Traditionally, anyone can attend the convention. One need not be a member.

But voting (on the nomination of candidates, election of LPM officers, amendments to our bylaws and platform, etc.) is governed by articles VI and VIII of our bylaws.

    One can vote only if:
    (1) one registers for the convention and
    (2) one has been an LPM member for at least 30 days and (3) ones dues are current.

If you have been a member, but your dues are in arrears, you can pay your dues at the convention and vote.

There is no registration fee, but there is a charge for the Registration Packet. It is recommended that those planning to vote buy a Registration Packet. The Registration Packet is included in the "Complete Package" Convention Option.

Although pre-registration is not required. It will save you time at check-in, and allow better planning by the Convention Committee.
