  2. Scotty Boman for State Board of Education by Greg Stempfle

Major Party status likely for Top of Ticket Candidate

Libertarian Scotty Boman has just announced his candidacy for the State Board of Education, a move that could easily guarantee the Libertarian Party major party status in 2004.

Boman, a Grosse Pointe School teacher, is no stranger to educational issues.

He has a Masters from Wayne State in teaching as well as a Masters in Physics and is a former member of Wayne State University’s Student Council.

In 1998 and 2000, Boman ran for a seat on the Wayne State Board of Governors, each time earning 130,000 votes, higher than all third party candidates for those years. The major party threshold for political parties for the last four elections has been just slightly over 150,000 votes.

In 1997, Boman became the second Libertarian to be endorsed by the Detroit News, when he competed in the Detroit City Council general election.

Boman’s campaign will focus on giving local school districts more autonomy as well as decentralization of the State educational system. With even a modest amount of campaigning and media contact, not to mention a name similar to the coach of the Detroit Red Wings, earning the necessary 150,000 for major party status is within reach.

For more information, contact campaign manager, Greg Stempfle (stempfle@hotmail.com or 313-929-1789).

Scotty Boman can be reached at scottyboman@hotmail.com
