  2. Membership Drive -- Tips for Increasing Membership by Ghazey Aleck

Michigan has dropped from 3rd to 5th largest State LP in the Nation. With your attention and help, this is a temporary condition.

The LPM will be doing its part. In March and April, an outreach letter and an outreach newsletter will go out. We are also going to supply lists of these outreach persons to affiliates for the affiliates to recruit.

In the meantime, please consider doing the following:

    1. Recruit your local members to join the State/National Party--even if they disagree with some of the things both do, remind them how important it is to put your party first and keep it healthy on both the top and the bottom and everything in between.

    2. Put out news release and meeting notices to all the local press. Every time I get local press in the Clare-Gladwin area, my office gets calls for information.

    3. Find events to have your own local outreach booth.

    4. Create a membership person in your local party.

    5. Recruit, recruit and recruit. Talk to co-workers, neighbors, friends and family.

    6. Get an article with a photo to Greg Dirasion at newsletter@michiganlp.org as soon as possible. Our outreach newsletter should excite and inspire new members. Show them that things are popping in the LP all over Michigan and that we are something great to belong to.

Remember, this is 2002. It's an election year. We need to get to full strength to be all we can be!

  3. West Michigan Liberty Banquet by Jeff Steinport

Join the Libertarian Party of West Michigan for its annual Liberty Banquet in Grand Rapids. The West Michigan Liberty Banquet is an annual event where social and political friendships are renewed and extended. Coupled with this year's Leadership Conference, this promises to be a special event indeed. There are many accomplishments that we hope to recognize this year.

The cost for the Liberty Banquet is $25 if you register by February 28. Tickets at the door are $30. This includes a complete meal from the award-winning kitchens of Crowne Plaza. The event should be informative, lively, and entertaining.

Our featured speaker is Thomas E. Bowles. Mr. Bowles is Chairman and founder of the Michigan School Board Leaders Association. This libertarian-leaning membership group for elected school board members provides information and organizational support for members with alternative ideas to the state-sponsored education bureaucracy. Mr. Bowles will provide eye-opening information and hope for our schools.

For more information or to RSVP, contact Tom Horan at us@horan.net. The Crowne Plaza is located at 5700 28th St SE in Grand Rapids. Join us at 5pm for drinks and dinner at 6. The even should last until 9pm.
