- Hypothetically
by Stephen M. Townsend
Take this hypothetical situation. You hear a tragic
thump on your living-room window. Outside, you discover a
mourning dove lying stone dead, chased into the glass by a
hawk. One thing to think about is how to keep birds from
crashing into your window. A more immediate concern is what
to do with the dove.
It’s November and Michigan doesn’t even have a season
on mourning doves. Stepping back inside, you pull out your
‘handy copy’ of the Code of Federal Regulations and turn to
“Title 50, Part 21, Section 27” dealing with salvage of
migratory birds. “Personal Possession is” (in no uncertain
terms) “Prohibited,” so, you will need to obtain a Form
3-200-10a Federal Salvage Permit Application, necessary
letters from the approved facility, and a check for $25.00;
submit it all and get it approved before you can lay a
lawful finger on the bird.
On the other hand, you could look around and make sure
nobody else saw it hit the window, scoop it up and scurry
inside, breast it, sprinkle it with salt and pepper and wrap
it lovingly in bacon, then throw it on the grill.
Decisions, decisions.
You make the call about the proper course of action.
Something to keep in mind, though, is that fresh
window-killed mourning dove is delicious. Hypothetically
speaking.

- Finding Winable Races
by Stephen M. Townsend
In a perfect world, Libertarians will have strong, well
finance candidates running for office in every contested
seat, every election. These candidates will be able to
generate massive amounts of support and volunteers to run a
massive campaign. Unfortunately, were are not there yet.
What can you do?
The first key is to be a leader. The leadership of
every Affiliate must be represented as candidates. This
does not mean they have to carry the burden. However, they
must lead. Once they lead others will follow.
Next, once your people are in place, look for winable
races. How do you know? Look at it this way. Look at how
much money it will take to win.
$1,000,000 to win a race for US Congress.
$100,000 to win a race for State Representative.
$2,500 to win a race for County Commissioner
$1,000 to win a race for a Township office.
While these numbers are not entirely accurate, they are
a fairly realistic starting point. It is possible, that a
race for County Commissioner may be higher in the Detroit
area. These are a good starting point.
Now that you have some information, It will be much
easier to decide what races you will choose to run for and
win. If you cannot run to win due to either time or money.
Don't forget the need for candidates in every race.
Educational and Paper Candidates are needed.
