  2. Candidate Training by Stephen M. Townsend

The Candidate Recruiment Drive is in full swing and has worked with several of the better campaign people in the Libertarian Party to offer a Candidate Training Road Show.

Stephen M. Townsend, President of the Liberty Leadership Council, A Michigan Political Action Committee and Candidate Recruiment Chairman for the Libertarian Party of Michigan recieved the highest third party election totals in Midland County History.

Ghazey Aleck, Chairman of the Liberty Leadership Council and Vice-Chairman of the Michigan Libertarian Party, has a record of unpresidented success. Elected Clare County Prosecuter and assisting in over 27 successful candidate elections. This should be an unpresidented sharing of information.

  5. BARC Update by Nancy O'Brien

As of Friday, August 31 we had 22,140 signatures. We have approximately six weeks left to petition and 27,860 more signatures to collect. Many of our best activists petitioned over Labor Day weekend so we’re hoping next Friday’s totals will look a bit healthier.

Remember, time runs out October 20. That is the final deadline. We must turn the petitions in to the state on November 1 and need time to check and organize them.

Special thanks to our top petitioners:

    Jerry E Bloom 722

  6. Make Your "Defender of Liberty" Nominations by Heather Pauli

The annual Liberty Fest banquet is set for Saturday, November, 10 at the Automotive Hall of Fame in Dearborn (next to Greenfield Village).

As usual, "Defender of Liberty" awards will be presented to three individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty for our cause:

1.) Promoter of Liberty. In recognition of any Michigan resident (the only award not limited to LPM members) who has made significant contributions in advancing the cause of freedom. Dr. Jack Kevorkian was the first recipient.

2.) Spokesperson for Liberty. For the LPM member who has held high the torch of freedom before the world, willing to take the glare of publicity and the heat of statist hostility. Jon Coon is a former winner.

3.) Producer of Liberty. For the LPM member who has worked tirelessly (and, often, thanklessly) in the trenches, behind the scenes for nothing more than the love of liberty and the dream of seeing our country reclaim her heritage of freedom. Ben Bachrach is a former winner in this category.

At the discretion of the judges, a fourth award may be presented (without regard to category).

If you have a nominee for any of these awards, send in the name along with a statement (no more than 200 words) supporting your nomination by October 10.

    Send your nominations to:

    Defender of Liberty
    Libertarian Party of Michigan
    619 E. 9 Mile road
    Hazel Park, MI 48013
