  3. Pizza Guy Joins Party by Greg Dirasian

    Portrait of Don Gorman
    Saturday, September 9, 2000, saw 22 Libertarian candidates gathered at LPM headquarters in Hazel Park, attending a day long candidate workshop. This is the third candidate workshop sponsored by the LPM this year, all of which have been organized and run by the LP's best campaign manager, Barbara Goushaw.

    Barbara delivered the first workshop in February by herself (it was videotaped as part of the Success 99 series). Barbara, assisted by Michael Cloud, delivered the second workshop in May at the LPM state convention.

    This workshop featured guest instructor Don Gorman, former New Hampshire state legislator and former presidential candidate. Don added variety and a new aspect to the workshop - grilling all the candidates and forcing them to think on their feet.

    Perhaps one of the most interesting events happened when we broke for lunch and the pizza guy delivered our pizzas. When he realized he was in the Libertarian Party headquarters, he said that he has been voting Libertarian for a long time. We signed him up as a new member on the spot (he used his tip to pay his state dues, and candidate Constance Catalfio paid his local dues).

    Barbara Goushaw and Bruce Hoepner put the finishing touches on the day by hosting dinner at their home, where we all had a chance to discuss what we learned and spend more time questioning and learning from the pros in a less formal setting.

    Many thanks to the folks who put this event together and made it an informative and fun time.

  4. Oakland County Executive Being Watched by Greg Dirasian

    Libertarian candidate for Oakland County Executive, Paul Champion, who received a vulgar letter from the current Oakland County Executive, L. Brooks Patterson last year, announces his campaign website:

    ---> http://www.BrooksWatch.com

    This campaign website is as much about keeping an eye on the unscrupulous L. Brooks Patterson, as it is about promoting Paul Champion's candidacy. One of the more entertaining features of the site is the "Don't be fooled" animated image. Please visit the site and let us know what you think, then check back frequently as new features will be added to the web site regularly.
