  2. County Commissioner to Speak at Macomb County by Mark Heil

At the June 14 meeting of the LMC we will be featuring Macomb County Commissioner Leon Drolet (Clinton Twp.). He will share a series of situations that he has faced as a County Commissioner and ask us how we would vote if we were elected Libertarians. He really wants our input! Leon hopes that more Libertarians will decide to become pro-active by either running for office or becoming more politically active on the grass- roots level.

  4. Macomb Libertarians Participate in PRA Benefit by Diane Barnes

On June 3 the Libertarians of Macomb County participated in a benefit that was held at the Performance Cafe in Mt. Clemens to promote PRA2000 (Personal Responsibility Amendment decriminalizes a small amount of marijuana for personal and/or medical use for adults 18 years and over. PRA organizers are trying to collect over 300,000 signatures on petitions by July 10th, if so, the amendment will be on the November 2000 ballot.

Lou Vierling PRA volunteer and Macomb Libertarian member organized the event perfectly! Diane Barnes, Chairwoman of the Macomb County Libertarians, was the Mistress of Ceremonies kept the bands and speakers on schedule. Al Titran, candidate for Macomb County Sheriff and Rosemary Racchi, County Commissioner candidate for 31st district, promoted liberty and the Libertarian Party dressed in Colonial garb. Also, adding to the festivities was Abe Lincoln, AKA Richard Friend, Chairman of the Libertarians of St Clair County and Candidate for Congress in the 10th District. Marvin Marvin -Candidate for U of M Board of Regents enthusiastically addressed the crowd of about 200, advancing the Libertarian view of Personal Responsibility and Freedom. Jim Miller State Representative for the 22nd district also attended the PRA and distributed his brochures. Other speakers included Rick Friend, Greg Schmid and Al Titran. Featured musical acts were (in order of appearance): Sin Embargo, Detektive Riot, The Ziffles, and Defamation of Character.

Many signatures were gathered, over $700 was raised, and a good time was had by all thanks to the efforts of Lou and the many Libertarian volunteers.

  6. Clean Up Clinton Twp. Gov't. by Diane Barnes

    Investigate Sewergate--Prosecute Polluting Politicians!

Attention Clinton Twp Libertarians! We need you for the next Clinton Twp. board meeting. Libertarian candidate for Clinton Twp trustee, Scott Allen, along with party members David Wejrandt, Craig Yope, Jim Miller, Diane Barnes and Al Titran attended the May Clinton Twp Board meeting to 'demonstrate' their concern over the dumping of raw sewage into the Clinton River.

Al Titran stood outside the township offices with other Libertarian members, holding signs saying "Clean - up Clinton Twp Government". Al also passed out copies of "The Quiz" to many that attended the meeting. The township hall was filled to capacity due to residents concerns over the sewage problem and the controversial proposed 18 Mile Rd. expansion through a subdivision. The high point of the evening was when Al, shy - guy that he is, peacefully paraded through the meeting with his 'Clean Up Clinton Twp Govt.' sign. This brought cheers from the audience as well as an escort out of the building by the Township security. We are making plans to attend the next Clinton Twp. Board meeting and welcome your participation! The meeting is June 12, 6:30pm at the Township offices located at the Civic Center 40700 Romeo Plank Road. If you wish to be a part of the Pollution Solution please contact Diane Barnes at 810-774-1625 or email Dbarnes98@aol.com.
