- Michigan columnist calls for repeal of 2nd Amendment!
by Trish Marie
Sally York, news editor of the community newspaper "The
Grand Blanc News," a division of Heritage Newspapers, has
written a column in which she publically calls for the
repeal of the Second Amendment. Acknowledging that gun
control measures such as buy back programs and trigger locks
will not prevent all gun violence, she states that a much
better solution would be "loosening the stranglehold grip of
the NRA over Congress by repealing the Second Amendment."
The "Grand Blanc News" is a small, hometown paper with
primarily local readership. Not very important when
compared to publications such as the major statewide or
large city papers. But I think many might agree that such a
blatant call to attack one of the fundamental rights of a
free people--the ability to defend oneself--deserves
attention no matter how small or insignificant the published
source.
The Grand Blanc News' address is P.O Box 7207, Flint,
MI 48507, editorial fax number is 810-234-5591, telephone is
810-234-5245, Publisher is Fred Manuel, General Manager is
Dennis Setter. Remember, keep any communication to the
point, and POLITE. Attack the message, not the messenger.

- NEW ELEMENT DISCOVERED
Investigators at a major research institute have
discovered the heaviest element known to science. This
startling new discovery has been tentatively named
Administratium (Ad). The new element has no protons or
electrons, thus having an atomic number of 0. It does,
however, have 1 neutron, 125 assistant neutrons, 75 vice
neutrons, and 111 assistant vice neutrons, for an atomic
mass of 312. These 312 particles are held together by a
force called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities
of lepton-like particles called peons.
Since it has no electrons, Administratium is inert.
However, it can be detected as it impedes every reaction
with which it comes into contact. According to the
discoverers, a minute amount of Administratium causes one
reaction to take over four days to complete. Normally it
would take less than a second.
Administratium has a normal half-life of approximately
three years; it does not decay, but instead undergoes a
reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons,
vice neutrons, and assistant vice neutrons exchange places.
In fact, an Administratium sample's mass will actually
increase over time, since, with each reorganization, some of
the morons inevitably become neutrons, forming new isotopes.
This characteristic of moron promotion leads some scientists
to speculate that Administratium is formed whenever morons
reach a certain concentration. This hypothetical quantity is
referred to as the "Critical Morass". You'll know it when
you see it.

- Oakland County Wins Affiliate Contest!
by Ben Steele III
Congratulations to the Libertarian Party of Oakland
County, for winning the 1999 LPM Outstanding Affiliate
Contest!
The judges decided that out of six entries, the LPOC
was the most well-rounded and showed the highest level of
professionalism. The wide variety of activities that many
different people participated in over the past year to earn
the LPOC this honor included...
...membership outreach; fund raising; community
involvement; local government involvement; media courting
and coverage; participation in LP-sponsored events and
training activities; and clear, written plans for the
future.
The judges were impressed with the professionalism
shown by the LPOC, who had written goals and strategies in
the areas of candidate recruitment, membership recruitment
and retention, media relations, and others. The LPOC has
truly set the standard for "Outstanding Affiliate."
All of the entries showed how creative and active the
participating affiliates are.
At the Saturday night Banquet at the Libertarian Party
of Michigan Convention held in Ann Arbor the weekend of May
19-21, each participating affiliate was recognized and
honored for their hard work in 1999. The LPOC was presented
with a certificate and a banner marking their achievement,
and the other affiliates were each awarded a certificate and
can expect a $25 check in the mail, as well.
Let's get ALL of our affiliates involved in this
contest for 2000! Start now to assemble your scrapbooks and
records. A letter will soon be sent to each Affiliate Chair
describing the specific criteria the judges will be looking
for, but the following general areas will always be
considered:
Membership Growth and Retention; Political Activity
(campaigns/candidates); Membership Participation in
Community and Local Government; Newsletters; Budgets;
Fundraising Program/Events; Meetings; Media Relations;
Leadership; Organization/Professionalism; Strategy/Goals;
and Assistance to New or Neighboring Affiliates.
The Affiliate Contest is intended to provide
guidelines, support, and encouragement, as well as
recognition and gratitude to each and every affiliate that
is working hard to spread our message and our goals of
personal freedom and responsibility.
This contest is for your benefit! If you have any
suggestions or questions, please contact me at 517-288-5616
or bsteele1@tir.com.
Thank you to all of the affiliates who participated,
and for those who will participate this year!
