Can you imagine working at the following company? It has a little over 500 employees with the following statistics: * 29 have been accused of spousal abuse * 7 have been arrested for fraud * 19 have been accused of writing bad checks * 117 have bankrupted at least two businesses * 3 have been arrested for assault * 71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit * 14 have been arrested on drug-related charges * 8 have been arrested for shoplifting * 21 are current defendants in lawsuits * 84 were stopped for drunk driving (in 1998 alone) Can you guess which organization this is? Give up? It's the 535 members of your United States Congress! Yes, it's those same fun-loving bunch of knuckleheads that perpetually cranks out hundreds upon hundreds of new laws designed to keep the rest of us in line. Oh, and if you're wondering why these are mostly stats on accusations and arrests, it's because they are legally exempt from being held accountable under the laws they impose on everyone else.

If the 303,000 required signatures are obtained within the designated timeframe, the PRA will be on the Michigan ballot in November of 2000. The Personal Responsibility Amendment decriminalizes the personal use and possession of marijuana and removes the destructive financial incentives behind the enforcement of forfeiture laws. Libertarians, who advocate individual freedom and personal responsibility, generally favor such proposals. Libertarians believe drug education is the key to reducing drug use and realize that restricting the government's use of force from areas in which it doesn't belong in a free society allows government resources to be appropriately and more efficiently used to keep the peace and prevent crimes of force and fraud. Additional information on PRA2000 can be obtained at www.ballot2000.net. ----------------------------------------- The Wednesday, January 12th meeting of the Libertarians of Macomb County will be held at: Heinzman's Heidelberg Restaurant 43785 Gratiot Ave., Clinton Twp.
