  3. LP of Oakland County in Clawson Parade

Oakland County Libertarians returned to Clawson on July 5 to once again participate in the Clawson Independence Day Parade. Three flag bearers lead the Libertarian contingent, followed by Katherine Fisher, Barb Goushaw, and Mychelle Holland performing choreographed driving in their cars. The remainder of the group, walked along side, handing out balloons, copies of the Declaration of Independence, million dollar bills, Libertarian smoker cards and matches.

Greg Dirasian reports that one woman came up to him, took a copy of the Declaration of Independence, and said, "This is my year to become a Libertarian."

Katherine Fisher encountered somebody a few days later who recognized her from the parade. This prompted her to put an advertisement together for the LP of Oakland County to run in the Clawson Mirror (the ad ran on July 15, 1999). If you don't receive the Clawson Mirror, but we like to see a copy of the ad, it is available on the LPOC web site at:

                 http://www.bignet.net/~gkd/ad.html

The LPOC is also willing to make the ad available in Word97 format to anybody who would like to use something similar. Contact us if you would like a copy.

The LPOC would like to thank everybody who participated in the parade: Anne & Gary Bora, Greg Dirasian, Katherine Fisher, Barbara Goushaw, Bruce Hoepner, Mychelle Holland, Erik Lessien, Rosemary Racchi, Bob Schubring, Jeannie & Lloyd Sherman, Lorna Tate, Al Titran, John Ward.

  4. Oakland County Strategy

Did you think the stories about political strategy planning sessions taking place in smoke-filled rooms were just stories? No, they are not. On June 26, 1999, Oakland County Libertarians met in what quickly became a smoke-filled room. The day was spent laying out strategy for the 2000 election. The plan itself is still being written for presentation to the membership, but will be ready at the next meeting. Please join us at our upcoming general membership meeting for the official presentation. July 28, 1999 at Red, Hot & Blue (on the west side of Southfield Rd, just north of 12 Mile Rd). Meet for dinner at 6:30PM, meeting starts at 7:30PM. Please note that the location has changed!
