  2. Help Us at the Polls on Election Day by Paul Soyk

The Diane Barnes campaign request your help at the polls on election day this coming Tuesday, November 3rd. We will have available a brief outreach piece to take advantage of this final opportunity to appeal to actual voters as they enter the polls. The outreach piece will be appealing and simple. The presentation on the outreach piece is as follows:

Diane Barnes // A Voice for Parents // (Diane’s picture) // “One candidate stood out in our interviews: Diane Barnes of the Libertarian Party. She is well acquainted with board issues and an articulate proponent of school choice and local control.” // The Detroit News // editorial on Tuesday, October 20, 1998 // Vote for Diane Barnes // Libertarian for // State Board of Education

Your role will be to deliver the piece to voters as they approach the polls. If you have the opportunity, you may say “Please vote for Diane Barnes for State Board (of Education.)”

If you can help any time during the day on election day from the time the polls open at 7:00 a.m. until they close at 8:00 p.m. please let me know via E-mail at paulsoyk@flashnet.com or by phone at (810) 977-3523. If you are scheduled to help a candidate already, we will forward the outreach piece to their campaign for distribution to you on election day. Allow me to thank you for any help you can give us this coming Tuesday.

  3. Volunteers needed at Dearborn Polls by Greg Stempfle

    ---------------------------------------------
    GREG STEMPFLE FOR STATE REPRESENTATIVE
    Libertarian 15th District
Freedom for Everybody Everywhere at All Times
    ---------------------------------------------

I am in need of help at polls in Dearborn on Election Day. The State Rep race here has been VERY ugly. Voters are incredibly offended and upset with the way the D and R are sending out anti-candidate literature every single day. I have prepared a piece of literature with an elephant and a donkey throwing mud at eachother and I want to hand it out to as many voters as possible. This race is extremely close and I could pick up a couple hundred votes and make a real difference in the outcome of this race by this piece alone. If anybody is interested in helping out at the polls in Dearborn, call Greg Stempfle (313) 565-4407.

  5. Candidate Web Site

    1998 Michigan Candidates-

Our group is building a comprehensive listing of candidate websites for Michigan working in conjunction with WDIV TV Detroit and the League of Women Voters.

Do you have a campaign webpage? If not, we can post a page of text if you send us a couple paragraphs on your platform. Space we provide will be unformatted, and we encourage you to develop a page on your own to reflect your campaign themes. Please e-mail text you would like us to put online to: submissions@publius.org.

Developing a page can be as simple as writing a document in a word processor that can save in HTML format (MSWord 95 and above, Word98, Corel WordPerfect 7 and above, etc..). Several organizations will put your page online for free. Additional info on web page creation can be found at our Frequent Asked Questions page (http://www.publius.org/faq.htm).

We encourage you to take advantage of the Internet as a information resource for your potential voters.

    Thank You and Good Luck

  8. Chistine James appointed to public office

The Libertarian Party candidate for Iron County Board of Commissioners, Christine James, was unanimously elected by that Board to serve on the Iron County Authority on Aging.

According to Ernest Rawson, the Iron County Administrator, Christine's "selection to fill this important position is truly reflective of her many fine qualifications and attributes as an outstanding citizen of Iron County..."

Ironically, it appears that Christine's appointment received the support of her opponent in the November election.

Christine James' appointment brings to more than 13 the number of Michigan Libertarians that are currently serving in public office.

  9. Smokers Outreach Finding Matches by Ben Bachrach

The Libertarian Party of Michigan effort to reach out to tobacco smokers seems to be catching fire. The number of inquiries we are receiving on the 1-800-Elect-Us line has increased dramatically since the Smoker Cards, and Matches were distributed.

All the match books have been distributed, but Tim O'Brien still has Smoker Cards available. Contact him at TOBrien321@aol.com if you need more.

Also let Tim know if you think the LPM should continue distributing Matches. Especially let him know if you would be willing to help fund the effort.
