  2. LPM Web Site Now Listed on VoteNet by Mark Heil

The Libertarian Party of Michigan's web site is now listed in the search engine of VoteNet. According to their home page, "Votenet is an online community serving politicians, candidates, and citizens alike: Democrats, Republicans, or any political party; conservatives or liberals; federal, state, or local candidates; presidents, senators, or representatives; Votenet is the place for FREE campaign software and other online political services."

I recommend VoteNet to anyone who is politically active, it is a great resource. Point your browser to: www.Votenet.com

Any LP candidates should also visit and add your campaign site to their listing. They also offer a free web based e-mail service which may be attractive to candidates, how would you like to advertise an e-mail address of "yourname@vote.net". This would also allow you to keep your campaign e-mail separate from your personal e-mail. They also offer free web sites, free campaign management software, and online fundraising facilities to name a few.

  3. LP Convention News Media Coverage by David Nagy, Chair Print Media

As you may all know, the Libertarian National Convention, in Washington, DC will be live via the C-Span TV Network, July 3rd-5th.

Our committee has placed media ads in hope of informing many others throughout the State, and will be running on various dates starting Mon. 6/29 to Thurs. 7/2. The committee has spent $2,400 covering the LOCAL newspapers (Not the News or FreePress) in a 1/8th page ad covering Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne Counties and The Argus Press (Owosso), Cadillac Evening News, South Haven Tribune, and The Paper (Grand Rapids). Hopefully we may be able to cover more in the future.

We wish to thank all the generous LPM members who made this all possible and to Mike Devour, Ben Bachrach, Mark Heil and Tim O'Brien for their contributions.

This is an experimental media advertising program and we would greatly be interested in your follow up of these ads and your comments.

    Thanks

  4. Who will be awarded honor of hosting LibertyFest? by Stacy Van Oast

The Libertarian Party of Michigan’s annual Liberty Week and prestigious Defender of Liberty Awards Banquet are traditionally held in October, which is rapidly approaching.

Liberty Week is when we ask you and/or your affiliate to make an extra effort to promote liberty and the Libertarian Party. Many means are available to do so, for example:

*Presentations at schools *Displays at fairs or local events *Hosting debates featuring Libertarian and older party candidates *Showcasing our local Libertarian candidates *Having a special guest speaker at meetings to increase attendance and expand knowledge *Writing letters to the editor and calling talk radio programs *Helping LP candidates by distributing flyers or making phone calls *Canvassing for local LP candidates *Having your local LP group adopt a road *Bringing to the public's attention a local law that is frivolous or that hampers liberty *Supplying your local library with Libertarian/freedom orientated newsmagazines

The gala Defender of Liberty Awards Banquet, aka the LibertyFest, is when the LPM honors four select individuals, Libertarian or otherwise, who have made notable personal efforts in the defense of liberty. Traditionally, an affiliate or committee of the LPM organizes and hosts the banquet.

So far, no one has stepped forward to take advantage of this terrific fund raising and affiliate-building opportunity. For information and/or to submit a proposal on hosting the LibertyFest banquet, please contact Stacy Van Oast, LPM Affiliates Director, at stacyvo@eesc.com or at (810)784-8783.

Liberty Week provides an excellent opportunity for Libertarians across the state to step up their efforts to promote the cause of liberty and increase the size and influence of the Libertarian Party, especially in an election year such as this. And the banquet is an excellent opportunity to celebrate liberty, honor activists, and hear the latest campaign news. Please help us keep this exciting tradition alive and consider hosting the banquet and promoting the week-long event.

  5. Ann Arbor Art Fair by Dan LaFavers

From Wednesday, July 15 through Saturday, July 18, the Libertarian Party of Washtenaw County will be hosting a booth at the Ann Arbor Art Fair. Come by and say Hi!

Our focus this year will be local and state campaigns. Any and all candidate literature, brochures, press releases, are welcome. We will have a large poster showing the names of all candidates in Michigan, and it would be nice to have something from each of them to demonstrate that the party is very active, organized, and on the move.

We can't return extras, so don't send too much.

Send your literature to: Dan LaFavers, 5805 New Meadow Drive, Ypsilanti MI, 48197.

If you can volunteer a couple hours to help staff the booth contact Nick Contaxes (734 668-8132) or James Hudler (734 475-9792).

  6. National Convention -- Be There or See There by Doug MacDonald

The LP National Convention will be held this weekend from July 1 through July 5. Some of the Convention will be televised on C-Span. So, even if you can't be there, you'll be able to see the Convention.

Don't miss our very own Barbara Goushaw, LP candidate for Trustee of Michigan State University, on Friday, from 11:30 am to Noon. She will be delivering her most fabulous address entitled, "Handguns are a Girl's Best Friend." Our very own Honorable Fred Collins, Berkley City Councilman, will be introducing her.

You may also be able to see the Michigan delegation when the C-Span cameras pan the audience. The Convention will be loads of fun for those who go to Washington DC this weekend, but even if you can't get there, you can still enjoy the Convention from your own living room!

I hope to see you all there. But, even if I don't, I hope you all will see me there ... and even if you don't see me there, be certain not to miss Barbara Goushaw and Fred Collins on Friday from 11:30 to Noon!
