Vote Libertarian Tuesday November 6

Don't forget to vote Libertarian in the general election on Tuesday, November 6!
Why should you vote?
- To support Libertarian candidates who advocate freedom and responsibility. To see a list of Libertarian Party of Michigan candidates and their contact information, click here.
- To show support for the Libertarian Promise to Michigan made by those candidates. Check out the Promise by clicking here.
- To give Libertarian Governor and Lieutenant Governor candidates BILL GELINEAU and ANGELIQUE CHAISER THOMAS the vote total they need to retain the Libertarian Party of Michigan's primary party status. That's never been done by a Governor ticket other than the Republicans and Democrats since the current election law took effect more 80 years ago. Bill and Angelique need to garner votes equal to at least 5% of the votes that will be cast for all the Secretary of State candidates in the November 6 election. - To vote on the three statewide proposals. Proposal 1 for marijuana legalization fell 2 votes short of the two-thirds majority required for endorsement at the 2017 Libertarian Party of Michigan state convention. The delegates to the 2018 Libertarian Party of Michigan voted to oppose Proposal 2, which would change the way gerrymandering is done by making sure only two "major parties" and the Secretary of State control the process. Proposal 3 to reinstitute straight ticket voting would hurt the ability of Libertarian, independent and third party candidates to gain votes. - To support the Libertarian Party of Michigan nominee in the nonpartisan election for Michigan Supreme Court, KERRY LEE MORGAN. Note that the word "Libertarian" will not appear by his name on your ballot.
Remember - straight ticket voting doesn't apply in this election. You must individually mark each candidate on your ballot. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. Check out your sample ballot and find your polling place by clicking here.
Don't blow this chance to send a message that it is no longer "politics as usual." There is a real choice. Vote Libertarian on November 6!

The momentum continues. Libertarian Governor and Lieutenant Governor candidates Bill Gelineau and Angelique Chaiser Thomas have continued to attract mainstream media attention in the run up to the November 6 general election. Morgan Positioned to Win Michigan Supreme Court
Kerry Morgan, the Libertarian nominee in the nonpartisan Michigan Supreme Court race was recently reported by Target Insyght as the choice of 22% of voters for the second seat up for election. This may be a consequence of the dissatisfaction of some Republicans with one of their nominees, Elizabeth Clement. In fact, both Republican primary gubernatorial candidate Patrick Colbeck and the Wayne County Republican Party have endorsed Kerry Morgan in the race, over Clement. Several Libertarian state legislative candidates are running active campaigns. These include Patty Malowney's 77th State Representative district campaign (Wyoming/Byron Township, Kent County), where she has knocked on more than 3,000 doors and distributed hundreds of yard signs, and Tyler Palmer's campaign for the 93rd State Representative district (Clinton/Gratiot Counties), where he started his door-to-door, yard sign and direct mail campaigns more than a year ago. This candidate was selected at a state convention, but a candidate's views and activities are not necessarily endorsed by the Michigan Libertarian.
Detroit, MI - Michigan Board of Education candidate Scotty Boman has combined local activism with a statewide campaign. Locally he organized a questionnaire and candidate forum to vet Charter Commission candidates. As a statewide candidate he has ventured beyond Southeast Michigan to be interviewed on television and to participate in the only televised debate of Michigan Board of Education candidates.
Candidates from Both Parties Face Off in Meridian Township
Sherri Wells (G) and Scotty Boman (L) traveled to Okemos Michigan to participate in a one hour live televised debate. The debate, hosted by HOM-TV on Comcast channel 21, was the only live televised debate of the Board of Education candidates. All candidates were invited, but only Boman and Wells showed up.
People were invited to call in questions; however, at least one person, Mark Ashley Price, preferred social media.
Wells emphasized the value of Public Education in ensuring a "cohesive" society and argued that it was essential to a functional democracy. Boman contrasted himself with Wells by emphasizing the need to move away from the coercive manner by which public education is funded, calling it "extortion." Boman also conceded, "I am going to say a couple very unpopular things..." before arguing for the removal of the "Gun-Free zones" from CPL restrictions.
Both Wells and Boman agreed that there was too much centralized control of education and they argued for a decentralized approach. They also spoke disparagingly of common core; Wells because it was a manifestation of corporate control and Boman because it was a manifestation of big government. Boman acknowledged the corporate component calling it "crapitalism or crony capitalism."
The Debate follows half hour interviews with these candidates and others including Libertarian John Tatar.
Detroit Charter Commission Candidates Face Off At DRACO Forum
Closer to home, Boman continued his fight to preserve civilian oversight of the Detroit Police Department as founder and spokesperson of Detroit Residents Advancing Civilian Oversight (DRACO). They presented a Candidate Forum Sunday, October 14th in the gymnasium of the Samaritan Center on Detroit's East-side. Ten candidates participated on the panel and about thirty people attended.
The moderator was WMKM 1440 AM "Stand Up Now!" host Cynthia A. Johnson.
The Charter Revision is the equivalent of a Constitutional Convention for the City of Detroit, yet most Detroiters knew very little about the candidates. This forum was a chance to learn about them. The emphasis was on how they envision the future of the Police Commission (If there is to be one), but questions were asked by the audience on a variety of topics related to revising the Charter.
Boman had previously campaigned against passage of the Charter Revision and petitioned for a recount when it appeared to pass by less than 184 votes. After failing to nullify the election results via the recount he filed a complaint with the Attorney General. The complaint was rejected by the attorney general and may now be addressed in circuit court.

This is the last Oakland County Libertarian event scheduled in 2018. Regular meetings will resume in January at a new location.

The candidates and precinct delegates of the Libertarian Party of West Michigan will meet in convention on Saturday, November 10th for the purpose of electing representatives to its Oversight Committee and other party business. Come celebrate our Libertarian victories and elect the new Oversight Committee to steer the affiliate for the next two years!
Following the initial convention of Libertarian precinct delegates and candidates, the new Oversight Committee will select the LPWM party officers for the 2019-20 term.
